Ashton Court > About Us

Exciting, stimulating, challenging, secure

First Steps Ashton Court is an Ofsted-rated "Outstanding" children's nursery, located close to the centre of Wolverhampton.

You will find us in a large Edwardian building, set over three floors and offering light, spacious, well-appointed activity rooms for children aged three months to five years.

There are separate rooms for babies (0-2 years), toddlers (2-3 years), and preschoolers (3-5 years) all filled with resources that are both challenging and interesting and stored in a way that encourages independent learning. Bathrooms and changing areas are open and bright with child sized toilets and basins fixed at a level to encourage success and independence.

The garden is enchanting, with spaces to hide, run and dig. Natural shade is provided by our willow structure and a permanent sail shade protects us from the elements all year round.

Our pre-school children also enjoy going to Forest School - an environment where they can run, hide, discover and explore, take risks and develop self confidence in an alternative setting.

We have a fantastic relationship with our parents, who we work in partnership with to ensure children's learning and development is linked at home and at nursery. Parents attend regular workshops and events in nursery and happily share information about their child to help build up a detailed picture of their progress.

Security is paramount. The main entrances are locked while CCTV enables the staff to monitor the arrival and departure of parents, children and visitors.

At our most recent Ofsted inspection (2013), we were given a rating of "Outstanding".

Inspectors praised every aspect of our nursery, telling us:

  • The nursery provides an excellent range of exciting and stimulating activities for children through which they make rapid progress in their learning. Staff have a thorough understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and implement this highly effectively.
  • Children are safeguarded extremely well in the nursery due to the implementation of robust policies and procedures which have been reviewed meticulously in recent months so that all staff know precisely what to do in the event of a concern arising.
  • Children's health and well-being are extremely well protected as staff are vigilant and caring. Children form strong bonds with their key person, who ensures children in their group are secure and happy. Healthy food choices and independence are promoted highly effectively.
  • They described the children's learning journey variously as "stimulating", "exciting" and "challenging".
  • They also described our children as "extremely happy and secure".
